Zips and exploded plan-room downloads

The app is not live yet. This article describes the intended behaviour. planned

What happens to a zip

Plan rooms often give you a zip. Some zips hold a few large PDFs. Some hold hundreds of one-page PDFs, one per sheet. That second kind is called an exploded set.

The app opens the zip and lists the PDFs inside. It notes the page count and page size of each file.

Many one-page files of the same size are joined back into one drawing set. A large specification book in the same zip stays a separate document. It is not merged into the drawings.

File names often end in a number, such as _283. The app uses the first number at the end as the order. A second number, such as _283_2, is read as a copy marker. It is not a new position.

The app then checks that the numbers run without gaps or repeats. If they do not, it says so in the Index Report. It does not guess.

A zip that is damaged, or that expands to an unreasonable size, is refused with a named reason. The other files in the upload carry on.

Example project (fictional): twelve one-page files named sheet_001 to sheet_012 become one drawing set, in that order.
